Starlink for motorhomes – Satellite Internet on the road

Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX has had its Starlink program in operation in Germany for some time. The service was previously only designed for stationary use and could not be taken on trips. It would be too convenient to take your Internet from home with you wherever you go. However, the classic Starlink “contracts” always require you to provide a usage address.

This is now changing with the now available offer Starlink for motorhomes, this service is designed for travelers. The special, Starlink is valid worldwide, provided that the satellites cover this area. If you travel to Morocco with your motorhome (available from 2023), you can use your Internet access at no extra cost. In addition, high-speed Internet is available everywhere in the coverage area; in Germany, Starlink currently delivers about 120 MBit/t in download and about 20 in upload.

However, the whole thing has its price, for the hardware Starlink charges once, including shipping and provisioning 702 euros. After that, 120 euros per month is due for use, the special thing here, the 120 euros are only charged if you use the service. Especially to mention, currently there is no waiting list, unlike the fixed Starlink for home.

For people who have to work on the road, the whole thing could be really interesting, otherwise the mobile hotspot or the LTE router will probably do, provided you have reception.
