(only Grand California before facelift)
In Technical Product Information 2065884/7, Volkswagen describes extensive malfunctions of the MIB3 radio and navigation system in the pre-facelift Grand California. Only vehicles with certain hardware and older software versions are affected.
Validity of the TPI
This TPI only applies to vehicles before facelift with:
- Radio navigation system with PR number 8AR
- Software versions in the 0777 and 08xx range
Problem description
According to the TPI, affected vehicles may experience a variety of malfunctions in the areas of infotainment, display, audio, telephony, navigation and online services. The complaints sometimes occur sporadically and are not always clearly reproducible.
Typical symptoms
Settings and functions
- Voice control without function or only sporadically available
- Speed warning deactivates automatically
- Phone contacts delete themselves or are suddenly no longer available
- Apple CarPlay connection breaks off after a short time
- Internal hotspot cannot be switched on
- Displays such as power monitor or WLAN names are not saved or are displayed incorrectly
Display and operation
- No image from the reversing camera after engaging reverse gear
- Display remains black or freezes
- Radio navigation system switches itself off and on again automatically
- No operation via touchscreen or steering wheel buttons possible
- User tiles are missing after startup
- Content flickers or is displayed distorted
- Black screen when starting Apple CarPlay
Audio
- No or intermittent loss of sound output
- Noise from the loudspeakers
- Incorrect audio source after switching
- Spotify playback interrupts regularly
- Audio output with Apple CarPlay is via the cell phone instead of the vehicle speakers
Phone and connectivity
- Bluetooth connections break off
- Apple CarPlay disconnects after phone calls or when using the Home button
- Echo when making calls after several minutes of conversation
- Messages, e-mails or contacts are displayed incorrectly or incompletely
Navigation and online services
- Vehicle position is displayed incorrectly
- Navigation does not start or freezes
- Favorites and destinations delete themselves automatically
- App Connect and We Connect functions are limited or without function
- Maps and app updates not possible
- Language and display problems depending on the system language set

The cause is a software-related deviation in the control unit for information electronics.
