Volkswagen is carrying out a software update of the engine control unit for Crafter, T6.1 and Grand California models with Bi Turbo engines. The aim is to improve the diagnostic capability and operational reliability of the engine.
The new software extends the diagnosis of the high-pressure fuel system. Deviations in the pressure curve are detected earlier and displayed to the driver via the engine control light to prevent possible consequential damage. In addition, the control of the pressure control valve has been revised so that the diagnostics are not triggered unnecessarily.
The update also includes various optimizations:
– Improvement in idling behavior
– Adaptation of the calculation of the soot input in the diesel particulate filter for a more precise maintenance interval
– Optimization of oil level max detection
– Extended comfort and diagnostic functions of the SCR system
– More stable diagnosis of exhaust flap, coolant venting and turbocharger
The procedure takes about an hour and only involves reprogramming the engine control unit. No other control units are updated. No spare parts are required.
Before the update is carried out, it is checked whether the vehicle is affected. Special attention must be paid to vehicles with chip tuning, as the update may overwrite existing tuning software or damage the control unit. VW accepts no liability in this case.
After successful completion, the workshop documents the measure in the digital service plan or in the service booklet.
Overall, this is purely a software measure to improve the reliability and diagnostic stability of the engine.
