Oil consumption MAR engine too high – TPI 2075488/1

< 1 min read

This Technical Product Information (TPI) deals with the increased engine oil consumption of the MAR engine, which is above the specified standard.

Customer statement:

The affected vehicle consumes more than 0.5 liters of engine oil per 1,000 km.

Workshop determination:

– An oil consumption measurement in accordance with TPI 2028426 was carried out and confirmed that the oil consumption is above the permissible limit values.

– All external oil-carrying components such as the oil cooler and turbocharger were ruled out as the cause of the damage. The cause therefore lies in the engine itself.

Technical background:

– The increased oil consumption rate is due to valve stem seals slipping off the valve guides.

– Optimized valve stem seals were developed to remedy the problem and will be used in series production from the 4th quarter of 2023.

Measure:

– Check the position of the valve stem seals.

– If these have slipped up as shown in the TPI, all valve stem seals must be replaced in accordance with the repair guide.

– The cylinder head cover must also be replaced.

– If the valve stem seals are in position, this TPI does not apply.
