Service overview

This chapter is constantly updated and adapted.

Listed are the necessary service work or service intervals on the VW Crafter or VW Grand California.

• Service work – inspection
  • Check interior lighting
  • Check puncture kit, replace tire inflator bottle with sealant if past minimum expiration date.
  • Check outdoor lighting
  • Check body for corrosion
  • Lubricate door check
  • Check brake system
  • Check shock absorber
  • Check V-belt
  • Check engine / engine compartment; visual inspection for leaks etc.
  • Check axle joints, coupling rods, rubber bearings
  • Check tie rods
  • Exhaust system, visual inspection for leaks, fastening, damage
  • Underbody, visual inspection for damage
  • Detachable hitch, check and clean if necessary.
  • Check tires, tire tread, tire age, tire pressure
  • Check engine oil level
  • Check battery
  • Check brake fluid level
  • Check cooling system, frost contactor and top up if necessary.
  • Check windshield wiper and washer system

• Time – or mileage-dependent additional work
  • Dust and pollen filter: clean housing & replace filter element
    • Every 50000 km or 2 years
  • Check timing belt for camshaft drive
    • Every 50000 km
  • Generator & A/C compressor. V-belt, overrunning pulley and tensioner pulley
    • Replace every 60000 km
  • Replace fuel filter
    • Every 100000 km
  • Clean air filter housing and replace filter element
    • Every 100000 km or 4 years
  • Timing belt for camshaft drive incl. Replace tension pulley
    • Every 150000 km
  • Change automatic transmission oil incl. Oil strainer
    • Every 200000 km
  • Query diesel particulate filter ash mass
    • Every 200000 km, then every 50000 km
  • Replace V-ribbed belt
    • Every 200000 km
  • Brake system – change brake fluid
    • Until Mj 2020
      • Every 3 years, then every 2 years
    • From Mj 2021
      • Every 2 years
  • Change four-wheel clutch oil
    • Until Mj 2020
      • Every 3 years
    • From Mj 2021
      • Every 2 years
  • Camping gas system gas system test
    • every 2 years (Germany)

• Oil change
  • Engine oil incl. Change filter (according to interval display)
  • Check thickness of brake pads and condition of brake discs
