VW Connect suddenly offline? What’s behind the error after the workshop visit

If you suddenly no longer have a connection to the VW app after a workshop visit, cannot use online services and the SOS LED in the roof module no longer lights up green, you are not alone. Exactly this problem can occur with Grand California – if a so-called VKMS adjustment was carried out after March 2, 2025.

The cause lies in a software-related discrepancy in VW’s IT infrastructure. Particularly affected are vehicles in which the “Replace control unit” test program was started for certain control units – even if the control unit was not physically replaced.

What helps? VW describes a step-by-step solution in an internal TPI, which requires, among other things, a second VKMS adjustment and a little patience. The chassis number must be cleared in the background system, which happens automatically every hour on the hour. Only then can a new VKMS adjustment permanently resolve the problem. If a connection is still not possible, a further reset is the final measure.

Conclusion: The problem is annoying, but solvable. It is important that the workshop knows the correct sequence – and carries it out. If you are affected, you should definitely bring this up at your next appointment.
