Almost exactly a year ago, on 10.06.2022, we published an article in our knowledge base on how to convert the motion detector in the bathroom to a push button or dimmer.
Instructions for converting the motion detector in the Grand California into a “normal dimmer switch
Version 1.0 Was performed with the following component from Häfele: (Unfortunately, you cannot order from the Häfele store as a private individual. You can either
The background should be obvious to many Grand California owners, almost a pun, because the light in the bathroom switches on by itself. This happens mainly when the vehicle moves, for example when you turn over in bed, causing towels or other things in the bathroom to move. Of course, the motion detector cannot distinguish whether a person or a towel has triggered the movement, so it can happen that the light in the bathroom is switched on in the middle of the night.
The error has also belonged to Volkswagen, so all Grand California will be delivered with immediate effect without motion detectors in the bathroom. It is now replaced by a normal light switch next to the bathroom door, which additionally offers the possibility not only to turn the light on and off, but also to dim it.
From a design point of view, we find it to be a foreign body, but finally a pragmatic solution has been found and the problem has not been ignored any further.
Many thanks to Home of Cali for the pictures.
