The future of GrandCali.com

What a wild ride we’ve had. I’ve already mentioned it in a few posts, Silvie and I could never have dreamed how big this whole thing would become.

It started with a passion for a campervan and today it’s more than a full-time job. The two of us can no longer cope with it in its current form. The WhatsApp community, emails and, last but not least, the online store are practically taking up all our time. On top of that, we have one or two health problems that have forced us to take months-long breaks and will unfortunately continue to do so.

I have given a lot of thought to how this whole project can and should continue. The story surrounding the Grand California is winding down, the vehicle’s problems are almost completely told six years after its market launch and we can write few new things about the vehicle. At least as far as problems and their solutions are concerned. But thanks to this amazing community, we have also received a lot of suggestions, so we receive messages every day with suggestions for improving the Cali and whether we can build this or that.

The module for the AlphaDynamik step was the beginning of a new era for us. We went from being bloggers and content creators to service providers and developers. On January 19, 2025, we published the post about the AlphaDynamik integration on our site and an incredible 72 steps later, the demand is still unbroken. A completely unexpected success story. We actually only wanted a module for our Cali and that’s what it turned out to be. Last but not least, we are proud that our module also works fully with the facelift of the Grand Californias. And yes, we are proud that we are the first and so far the only ones to have achieved this.

We continued with the Battery Maintainers, followed by the Powerstation Integration. These are all products that we have not reinvented, but we have made them simple. So that anyone can install and, above all, use these devices without a great deal of know-how.

Things have been very quiet here over the last few weeks. This was due to the projects mentioned above, but also because of my health and a related operation. Unfortunately, I still have to be patient, but if everything continues as before, I will be fully fit again in January.

About the future

Of course, we have been thinking about how and whether we want to continue with the whole project. Because we are at a point where we have to make a decision. Either we stop now and say it was a great time or we go all in and focus fully on ZM Media professionally.

ZM Media, which many people don’t know, is the company behind GrandCali.com.

We are aware that at some point the Grand California will no longer be built and that this story is finite in some form. We have therefore decided to no longer develop and sell our products with the Grand California as our sole focus. Of course, this entails a risk, namely that we may lose loyal Grand California owners who are readers of this site. We will keep our Grand California and continue to publish content about this great vehicle, which I still think is the best in its class.

But it’s not for nothing that GrandCali.com has been called Travel and Gadget Blog right from the start. With WomoWasch.de another project was added some time ago that we want to push further.

This is changing

The first major and visible change will affect our online store. This will gradually be completely rebuilt and no longer operated under the name GrandCali.com. The reason behind this is simple. If someone is looking for accessories for their camper that isn’t a Grand California, they probably won’t go to a store called GrandCali.com. For this reason, our online store is now called ZM Camping and can be reached at https://www.zm-camping.de. Over the next few weeks, the look will change and more products will be added to the store.

In addition to the online store, we will try to organize two or three events a year around the GC. We are currently looking into offering another driver training course.

The Womowasch project will also come back into focus in 2026. The website will be updated and the database of car washes for campers will be massively expanded.

Otherwise, we hope that you will remain loyal to us, continue to recommend GrandCali.com and accompany us with new projects and ideas.
