We mentioned it in the last post, the siphon in our Cali was leaking.
Fortunately, VW has installed a drawer under the siphon, so you get the defect directly after washing up with 😅.
Joking aside. Any part can break, it’s just especially annoying when it has something to do with water. This is always a huge mess and especially in the Cali the furniture is swollen by the water faster than you can look.
When we found the defect, it was off to the hardware store to get something to seal it. We don’t even want to digress further at this point: leave it! Save your time and money with waterproofing attempts, 99 percent of the time it won’t help.
In the Grand California, Volkswagen installs a Siphon of the company RichWhy the original Dometic siphon is not used here can only be speculated.
The defect of the siphon in our case was most likely caused by hot pasta water, the heat has deformed the inside and thus caused the leakage.
We did the replacement ourselves for two reasons: 1. the siphon was not available from Volkswagen and 2. the effort to bring the car to the workshop was simply too great. Clean out car, drive to garage, pick up car again, clean, put away and so on. You know the problem. The fun cost about 25 euros including shipping and installation took all of 5 minutes. Sounds better than all that driving back and forth, doesn’t it?
Should you ever have this problem and want to replace the siphon itself, it is the Reich siphon with 39mm and stainless steel strainer.
