GPS position in VW vehicles is not displayed correctly

1 min read

In some VW vehicles, the GPS position is sporadically displayed incorrectly in the navigation system. This is manifested by the fact that the vehicle position on the display control panel of the radio/navigation system does not match the actual location. However, after changing the ignition or after the vehicle has been stationary, the position is displayed correctly again before the problem can occur again later.

Symptoms:

– Sporadic deviations of the vehicle position on the navigation display.

– The vehicle is sometimes displayed next to the road.

– The proposed route is not plausible or does not meet expectations.

– The location of the vehicle jumps back and forth on the display.

Causes:

The problem is attributed to deviations in the control unit for the emergency call module and the communication unit (diagnostic address 0075). A defective or faulty GPS antenna system could also play a role.

Measures:

1. review of relevant Technical Product Information (TPI):

– Technical product information on the control unit for information electronics and other relevant contributions must be checked and processed if necessary.

– TPI 2065884/* in particular should be checked.

2. read out the event memory:

– Read out the event memory of the control unit for the emergency call module and communication unit (0075) and the control unit for information electronics (005F) to check GPS reception or damaged components.

3. replacement of components:

– If necessary, replace the control unit for the emergency call module and the communication unit in accordance with the repair guide.

4. check the emergency call LED in the roof module:

– After replacing the control unit, the green emergency call LED in the roof module next to the SOS button must remain lit for about 10 minutes after the ignition is switched off. If the LED goes out immediately, this indicates incorrect activation of the emergency call system.
