Nothing annoys us more than wheel chocks, in whatever form. They are usually large, heavy and require constant adjustment. You drive up and down again, you have to drive on level three on the right-hand side and on level two on the left to keep the car straight. You know the suffering…
The last two years we have been completely without wedges on the road and have helped us only in an absolute emergency with stones or similar natural wedges.

Here, for example, at our Grand California meeting in the Harz Mountains this April. Unfortunately, the pitch was so steep that there was no other option. We could certainly have ignored it for one night, but as we stayed on the same pitch for four days in this case, we had to improvise a little.
In the meantime, an acquaintance, who was also at the meeting, casually unpacked his air wedges. Lifting bags from Coolmove.
The highlight, the Coolmove cushions are flat air cushions, these are simply placed on the ground, you drive your vehicle centered on the cushions and pump them up with the help of an air pump or compressor.

We immediately fell in love with these pillows and sent the order while still at the meeting.
The advantages are obvious: there is no need for tiresome manoeuvring or driving up. After driving up, inflate the cushions and then let out as much air as necessary until the vehicle is level and balanced. It’s simply perfect for us. However, we did have some concerns at first, as the vehicle naturally doesn’t stand as steady on air cushions as it would on a hard wedge. We were therefore worried that the Cali would wobble extremely when you move around in the interior. Fortunately, this is not the case. 🙂

Hi having used air bags to lift a wide range of vehicles and objects the golden rule when lifting is to pack as you jack i.e use chocks , blocks or wedges in conjunction with the lifting air bags as they are unstable on uneven or sloping ground.
I would therefore not recommend them for this application.
Hi Paul,
we don’t have these kinds of issues yet. We used them for about 2 Weeks on different grounds and no problems at all.
Which Brand did you use ?
Hi Ive spent over 30 years using airbags to lift cars HGV’s and trams I’ve specified the purchase of lifting equipment wrote safe systems of work along with risk assessments for their use.
Obviously it’s up to individuals to make their own judgement and chances are nothing drastic will happen.
Good luck
Thanks for your reply.
Just if the air runs out of those bags, what could happen? My RV is not straight anymore, or am I missing a point ?
Cheers
